At Key College, education breaks the cycle of disadvantage

Key College is an accredited independent high school for homeless young people in Redfern. We offer individual learning programs for students from Year 7 through to Year 12.

We know that education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of disadvantage. At Key College, we give students the support they need to gain their School Certificate or Higher School Certificate and move forward with their lives.

We’re not like a mainstream high school. At Key College we teach all students in one large classroom. It’s a supportive learning environment that covers far more than the regular school curriculum.

Before learning can begin, our students need support – and that’s what we provide. Often our students have a drug dependency or alcohol problem and most have lived in abusive situations. We help students with their housing, health, counselling and legal issues.

When a student graduates from Key College they have a strong feeling of ‘belonging’ to a community. When they leave, we do all we can to help them transition into further education, training and employment.
