Key College, Redfern

Key College was the first school established by our founder, the late Father Chris Riley AM, who saw the need for flexible and individualised education to support the wellbeing of at-risk young people.

Established in 1996, Key College is a coeducational specialist school supporting students in Years 910.

In late 2025, the college moved from its original campus to a new and more spacious location in Redfern. It provides a safe and inclusive learning environment for young people who are at risk of disengaging or have already disengaged from mainstream education.

The dedicated team of educators is committed to equipping students with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to pursue their Record of School Achievement (RoSA), Higher School Certificate (HSC) or transition into further education, training or employment.

As a Special Assistance School, Key College takes pride in its innovative and student-centred approach. It empowers learners who have previously struggled to find their place in traditional educational settings, offering them a renewed opportunity to thrive.

Within a nurturing and supportive environment, students are encouraged to re-engage with their education and realise their potential.

Key College didn’t just give me a safe and inclusive space; it opened doors I never thought possible. The staff here truly care about their students, not just as learners but as individuals with potential. They challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone, to aim higher, and to see possibilities I hadn’t dared to dream of before.  Neil*, Key College student

In addition to the guidance provided by the school manager and teaching staff, student wellbeing is holistically supported by a multidisciplinary team comprising a provisional psychologist, school counsellor, student support youth worker and First Nations student support youth worker.
