Cooking and delivering food for our Food Van to distribute

Our Food Van provides a trusted night-time presence for children, young people and adults in need, providing hearty meals during these challenging times. As the Food Van relies on your generous contributions, we are looking for volunteers who want to cook for or donate food to the service.

Where: Marrickville

When: Every evening

Ways to volunteer:

  • If you don’t nominate a particular night but wish to deliver cooked food, please deliver it to Marrickville at any time. We are staffed 24/7.
  • Volunteers can select a particular night and deliver food to Marrickville. If you wish to deliver hot food, it would be best to do so at 8pm before the Food Van leaves for the evening. If the cooked food has not been heated, please deliver it before 7pm so that volunteers can prepare it for the Food Van attendees to enjoy.
  • You can cook on-site in our fully-equipped kitchen. Please do this during the day to reduce the disturbance to our residents.

Types of foods to prepare:

We suggest that you prepare hearty meals that can be reheated easily, such as pasta bake, lasagne, shepherd’s pie, curry, vegetable frittata, soup, apple crumble, cake and brownies.

Ideally, these dishes will work best when served from a large, foil oven tray. We can provide trays for food to be cooked and delivered in.
