How you'll learn

Delivery mode

This course is delivered entirely online, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere and at a pace that suits your life. You will complete online assessments and engage in independent study activities, including pre‑reading, digital workbooks and practical tasks.

The course is self‑directed and you can work through the content at your own speed. As a guide, we recommend allowing 10-15 hours per week and aiming to submit 1-3 assessments per week to maintain steady progress.

Trainer Support

Although the course is online, you won’t be studying alone. Our trainers are experienced youth work professionals who are available to:

  • answer questions
  • provide feedback
  • support you through assessments
  • help you stay on track with your study goals

You’ll have access to support via phone, email and scheduled online sessions as needed.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer

We recognise that many students bring valuable experience and prior study to their learning journey.

Credit Transfer
If you have completed relevant units or qualifications with another Registered Training Organisation (RTO), you may be eligible for a Credit Transfer. This allows you to receive credit for equivalent units already achieved.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is available for students who have gained skills and knowledge through work experience, volunteering, life experience or informal training.
During the enrolment process, our team will discuss RPL options with you and help determine your suitability. If RPL is appropriate, you will receive an RPL kit that guides you through providing evidence for each relevant unit.

RPL and Credit Transfer can reduce your study load and, in some cases, shorten the time needed to complete your qualification.

Work placement

This course includes a minimum of 80 hours of work placement, which is a compulsory component of the Certificate IV in Youth Work (CHC40421).

Youth Off The Streets supports students in arranging suitable placement opportunities within youth work and community service environments. Work placement allows you to:

  • gain real-world experience in youth work settings
  • apply your learning in practical situations
  • develop professional skills and confidence
  • engage directly with young people under supervision

These hands‑on experiences are essential for building the capabilities required for effective and ethical practice in the youth work sector.

Assessment types

Written Questions and Reports

You’ll complete written tasks to demonstrate your understanding of key concepts, workplace procedures and industry expectations. These assessments help confirm your knowledge of the theoretical components of the course.

Practical Activities and Projects

Hands‑on tasks and project-based activities allow you to apply what you’ve learned in practical, real‑world scenarios. These activities are designed to build your confidence and capability in youth work practice.

Case Studies

You will examine realistic case studies that reflect challenges faced in youth work settings. These assessments help you develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to respond appropriately to complex situations.

Observations

Your skills will be assessed through direct observation during practical activities or workplace placement. This allows trainers or supervisors to evaluate your competency, communication and adherence to safe and professional practice.

Work Placement

During your supervised work placement, your performance will be monitored and assessed against workplace and industry standards. This ensures you are able to demonstrate your skills in a real youth work environment.
