The family that cycles (and fundraises) together, stays together
A family of self-described “Try-Hards” cycled 208 kilometres and raised over $7,600 for the children and young people our organisation supports.
“I thought there was no more worthy charity than to help kids who didn’t receive the opportunities that I did,” says Eugene, an avid cyclist who has supported Youth Off The Streets for over 30 years. “I know that all the money that is donated is spent wisely in helping young people overcome obstacles not of their making.”
A month into training for this fundraising initiative, he invited his daughter, Rebecca, to join him.

“I couldn’t say no,” Rebecca says – despite not at all being a cyclist. “When your dad asks you to spend time prepping a ride, it is more than a ride or donation to charity. It’s about sharing an experience with someone you love, doing something you know they love.”
Before they knew it, Rebecca’s husband John, her brother Pat and brother’s partner Laura were also on board for the ride.
As well as raising funds for Youth Off The Streets’ services and programs, John says the personal growth has been invaluable. “Personally, the ride and prep has been great for me,” he says. “I got healthier, lost weight and discovered a new love for cycling.”
“Everyone found that they were capable of much more than they thought possible,” Eugene says. “A great show of both resilience and endurance. Team spirit was strong.”
Running for good
It’s a challenge most wouldn’t dare to dream of – let alone attempt. But Luke did just that, pushing his limits across an ultra-endurance course and, in the process, raising nearly $1,700 to support young people in need.
At first, Luke’s motivation was “the personal gain and gratification I would get from it”. But he soon decided to make a difference to the lives of others too.

“I found out about Youth Off The Streets and fell in love with what you guys have been able to achieve,” he says. “I’m so thankful I’ve been able to contribute a small amount to this organisation and would love to stay connected in the future for more potential fundraising opportunities!”
Luke’s commitment didn’t waver – through rain, shine and the darkness of nightfall. He gave his all, “not only to raise money for such an amazing cause,” he says, “but also to challenge [others] in whatever way to get outside their own comfort zone.”
Walking in the right direction
Christian first encountered Youth Off The Streets as a university student.
“I volunteered with Youth Off The Streets in their Food Van,” he shares. “And so I was already aware of the great work the organisation achieves.”
Now the owner of Vision Personal Training – St Ives, a holistic personal training-gym hybrid service, Christian uses his position in the community to promote wellbeing beyond physical health. In the case of his recent fundraising initiative, wellbeing extends to that of the community.
For Christian, the coldest time of year presented an immediate need to act.
“I know that the coming of winter presents one of the most challenging times of the year for the homeless and those between homes,” he reflects. “I felt this would be a great time to do something about it, raise some awareness and involve our members in a way that aligns with our core values of a business and brand.”

For every kilometre that members of the gym walked or run, Vision Personal Training – St Ives would donate a dollar to Youth Off The Streets. His passion for gathering those in his network to the cause generated incredible impact – in one month, $2,000 was raised.
“Vision Personal Training – St Ives is a business entirely focused on helping people and transforming their lives,” he says. “As a business owner, I feel that [those in my position] have an ability to extend that reach beyond our members’ lives and better yet, we can do this by involving our teams and members so that they themselves can be a part of the positive impact.”
