On Saturday the community of Summer Hill and EG Funds Management attempted to break a world record for the largest image of a house made of humans, to raise awareness on homelessness in Australia.
It was a fantastic day bringing the community together for this cause in the beautiful space at the Flour Mill development at Summer Hill.
Although it was not meant to be, as we just missed out by 116 people to break the record, we did raise an incredible total of over $100,000 for our services.
As well as the world record attempt, the day also featured a range of entertainment, a DJ and delicious food stalls. The community were also given a chance to meet our youth workers, who were cooking up a storm on the BBQ.
Lex Nadine Lutherborrow, Deputy CEO at Youth Off The Streets, says it is crucial that the community is aware of homelessness and is part of the response.
“Our Inner West services work with around 770 young people a year who either live in the inner west or seek support from this area. It is clear that the existing strategies need a review in approach. Increasing community awareness of the issues our young people face is a first step.”
“This world record attempt was a great chance to raise awareness and support for our cause. We need to continue to come together as a community and start conversations on the issues many young people still face,” she says.
Youth homelessness is an issue close to the hearts of the EG team as well, says CEO Adam Geha.
“EG partnered with Youth Off The Streets in this World Record attempt because we are passionate about supporting local communities,” says Mr Geha.
