Our team met Jenny over two years ago when she started attending one of our youth outreaches. Jenny never saw much of her parents growing up. Her father was in prison most of his life until he died when Jenny was only 8, and her mother has a substance abuse problem that makes it difficult for her to take care of Jenny and her 3 younger siblings. As a result, Jenny found herself caught up in drugs; such as, glue and ice at a young age which led to serious crime.

Eventually, she dropped out of school and spent most of her days with her friends getting high. Things got worse when her boyfriend was tragically killed in a train accident whilst under the influence of glue.

That’s when Jenny knew something needed to change; she came to Logan Outreach with the intention of getting clean from using drugs and has never looked back since. Over two years, our team helped Jenny make some significant changes to her lifestyle; she stopped using drugs, getting in trouble and went back to school. She was also involved in boxing workshops and cultural workshops with local elders, as well as school holiday programs.

For her hard work, Youth Off The Streets presented her an award for showing significant positive change and responsibility. She has since then completed her year 12 and has started further study to complete a diploma of beauty, with the goal of opening up her own beauty salon one day.

Jenny’s relationships with those closest to her have also improved and she has a healthy, positive relationship with her grandmother and is currently expecting her first baby with her new partner.

We will continue to work, support and encourage this young person in any way, providing her with referrals, advocacy and, any other necessary assistance she might ask for until she’s settled and stable with her newly established family.
