Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational organisation working for young people who may be facing challenges around homelessness, drug dependency and/or recovering from abuse. We support these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and emotional abuse.

Come and join our successful team of Volunteers and use your skills and experience to support our Teachers to maximise learning outcomes for disadvantaged students.

You will be responsible for assisting our Teachers by working with individual students to revisit lesson outcomes, answering questions and establishing a sustainable study routine.  This support will enable our special needs students to achieve their academic goals, develop confidence and social skills to successfully participate in further education and the wider community.  In addition, you will be a role model for students, parents, staff and stakeholders and work collaboratively to ensure teaching successes in a safe and inclusive environment.  This volunteer role would suit retired teachers or teacher’s aides.

The position is based at the Koch Centre, Eden College and you can be with us for a total of 16 hours per week.  The days and times are flexible.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience working in an environment requiring respect, tact, empathy and sensitivity
  • Experience working as a member of a team and independently when required
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting students who are experiencing difficulties in learning
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on interpersonal and negotiating skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Experience in providing administrative support along with competent computer skills

As Youth off the Streets is a Child Safe Organisation the successful applicant will be subject to a National Police Check and will need to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
