The Organisation:

Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people who may be homeless, drug dependent and / or recovering from abuse. Youth Off The Streets supports these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and / or emotional abuse.

It is our goal that these young people will leave our care drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full-time or part-time job in hand.


The Role:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide specific individual and group-based community support to vulnerable young people. You will assist young people to engage with and access services and programs offered by Youth Off The Streets by providing outreach services in the, Bankstown and Western Sydney areas. This role will also involve some evenings and occasional weekend work.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To participate in outreach activities
  • Run and facilitate workshops, groups and events
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the mandatory child protection procedures and values that underpin a child safe organisation
  • Have an understanding of issues and challenges faced by youth from various individual and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills and highly service orientated
  • Building rapport with young people
  • Helping planning for addressing needs of young people
  • Prepare and manage Outreach reports as required
  • Build and continue networking with selected stakeholders, agencies, Schools, and other community groups

Essential Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Certificate IV in Youth Work or other related discipline
  • 1+ years’ experience in the youth and community sector
  • Strong communication skills and highly service orientated
  • The ability to provide individual and crisis support to young people
  • Have the ability to work in a team environment and independently
  • Experience in group facilitation, child protection procedures
  • Current Driver’s licence (Green Provisional P2 or above)
  • Have an understanding of adolescent development
  • Working with Children check
  • Willingness to travel for training and events
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of the local demographic and issues faced by the community


Desirable Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Experience working in an outreach setting
  • Experience in case work
  • Experience in Program Delivery specific to Youth is to your advantage
  • Knowledge and experience of working with CALD communities
