Youth Off The Streets has made the difficult decision to stop all activities in Bourke, effective Thursday 18 June.
With a lack of funding and COVID-19 heavily restricting the programs and activities we run, the decision to shut down operations was difficult but necessary while we review current services in Bourke to determine where Youth Off The Streets can develop an individual service model.
Since we first opened doors in Bourke in 2013 we have built many strong relationships with not only young people and their families, but local stakeholders. We would like to thank PCYC, Bourke police, Biirang, Bourke Shire council, Bourke public school and high school, Bourke Aboriginal lands council and Maranguka for their assistance – we know you will continue to support the young people of Bourke.
The young people we work with have been informed of our decision and have been given guidance on services that they can access if needed.
We would also like to thank our Bourke staff for their dedication to not only our organisation and cause, but the young people we worked with.
While we have taken a step away from Bourke, we continue to work in the area as we maintain a relationship with the Maranguka Initiative.
