The sight of a priest roaming the streets of Kings Cross on horseback, and a Great Dane alongside, was a memorable one for those in Kings Cross in 1991, and this is exactly how our longest running service started.
In 1991, Father Chris Riley went out every night with his horse Sarah and his Great Dane to deliver food to street kids in need in Kings Cross from 9:00pm till 5:00am. After a while, a nightly Food Van roster was set up and the program begun operating with Father and his supporters.
Today, Food Van has grown into a year-long volunteer operated service. In 2019 alone, we served over 9,000 hot meals to those in need.
None of this would be possible without the generous commitment of our volunteers and for Father Chris Riley daring to dream for a better life for disadvantaged young people. We look forward to providing hot meals for those in need for many more years to come!
