Today is World Mental Health Day. Working towards a positive mindset for our young people is a goal we couldn’t achieve without the support of Merrylands RSL Club.
Merrylands RSL Club has supported us for over 15 years and in 2019 we partner up again to provide a valued mental health service to young people in Western Sydney.
Through funding our School Psychologist at Merrylands, our young students are mentally and emotionally supported through some of their most formative years. Young people who attend our schools have commonly suffered through incredibly traumatic experiences and our psychologist is often the first mental health support they have experienced.
Nadine Bou-Antoun, our Psychologist, says that accessing mental health assistance sets our young people up to turn their lives around and achieve greatness.
“Often when the kids first come to my office they can be reserved and reluctant to talk about some of the traumatic things they have experienced.” She says, “but given a little time, they open up. You start to see things like attendance and grades improving and relationships with family or friends becoming stronger. It really is a fantastic and rewarding experience to see all the positive changes.”
Merrylands RSL Club has supported us with the funding for a Psychologist for nine years. Over the nine years funded by Merrylands RSL Club, the psychologist has assisted over 450 young people in turning their lives around.
We would like to extend our thanks to both Merrylands RSL Club and Your Local Club for helping some of Australia’s most vulnerable young people achieve their full potential.
