Today, Youth Off The Streets held our annual Open Day for 2019 in Merrylands to provide the public an insight to all the amazing services we have to offer.
We welcomed several of our staff, supporters, donors and volunteers to participate in a range of activities that showcased how we help young people in each of the communities we work in.
The 2019 theme for Open Day – ‘Connecting Communities’ – was incorporated into the entire day and is a consistent ideology across our organisation in all aspects of our work.
The day began with a formal presentation from a variety of people involved in Youth Off The Streets. These included our Deputy CEO, Lex Lutherborrow, Master of Ceremonies for the day Evan Walsh, Outreach Program Manager Ben Stevens and Refugee Services Manager Marisa Mya Bouasengphachanh. Each staff member highlighted the importance of the work each and every one of our services does for young people in the community.
Two young people also addressed the crowd and spoke of their journey at Youth Off The Streets and how we helped them overcome their adversities and begin to achieve greatness.
Many of our services held information and activity sessions detailing how our day to day operations impact and can change the life of any young person in our services:
- Our Outreach team ran activities and also presented a range of information detailing the work they do for young people in the community.
- Gary from our street walk gave a presentation on how they reach out to young people in crisis in the Sydney CBD.
- Our Education and Training and Development team spoke about the importance of education in breaking the cycle of disadvantage and poverty experience by many of the young people in our services.
- The Koch Centre for Youth and Learning presented alongside our Macquarie Fields-based Aboriginal services team to discuss how we service the local area through outreach programs, excursions, camps, cultural programs and much more.
Guests were then given a delicious lunch and the chance to mingle further with the staff and volunteers at Youth Off The Streets.
Open Day was a fantastic day, which allowed us to showcase our services to the local community. We would like to thank all those who came out to our Open Day and those who continue to help us change the lives of countless young people.
