As part of our Youth Week activities, our Bankstown Outreach held their Battle of the Services: Survival of the Fittest at Belmore Oval on Wednesday 18 April.
The day began at 10:00am where many young people joined our youth workers in setting up the Belmore Oval fields for Oz Tag, Soccer and Volley Ball. Our attendees were then split into 6 groups and played a round robin of each sport, scoring various points to determine winners on the day. Each sport is weighted differently to determine the overall winners of the event.
Lunch and drinks were provided for the young people on the day with some of our attendees even helping with the BBQ!
Youth Off The Streets provides these school holiday activities to engage local young people and provide them with access to youth workers who can help them with any issue they may have.
Will, a youth worker at Youth Off The Streets says that these are always great activities for the young people involved.
“It’s not just about getting youth outside and active” says Will, “but during school holidays it’s important to give young people fun activities and the opportunity to hang out with their friends. We had a great turnout for today’s event with many people coming along and bringing their friends, we are looking forward to even more school holiday activities in the coming week!”
The over 12s event ended at 3:00pm after all teams had finished every game. We would like to congratulate all of the young people who attended for their positive attitude and ability to engage and get along with other young people and the community as a whole.
Youth Off The Streets couldn’t have had such a successful day without the support and partnership of other fantastic local services. We would like to extend our gratitude to Canterbury Bankstown City Council, Mission Australia, Barnados, Belmore Youth Resource Centre, Sefton Roundabout Youth Centre and also a special thanks to Saree Boutros who is the Community Manager / Facilities Coordinator for the Bulldogs Rugby League Club who allowed us to use the field for no cost.
