Sydney to Surfers bike ride update: day 7.

What an incredible 7 days this ride has been.  On day 7 our young people had the best day of riding they have had all week. They had great speed, riding skills and team cohesiveness. Thank you to those who rode in pack 8 throughout the week, your riding experience was immensely valuable to our young people. Special thanks to Neil Matthews for working endlessly with our young people and giving them great advice to guide them through this ride.

As we reached the final leg of our 1000km journey and were escorted to the finish line by the local police, the young people were very overwhelmed with emotion, they were so proud of their efforts and the time they have had.

Our young people have frequently mentioned names of people who have inspired or encouraged them to be the best person they can be. They are so thankful to each and every person that has endlessly spent their time to do this ride and raise money for them.  They feel very privileged to meet such wonderful people who invest so much time and money in allowing them to have a second chance in life.

We already have eager cyclists for next year who are already setting targets for themselves to do even better than they did this year. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being so generous and wanting to create a brighter future for these young people. Also a big thank you to the cyclists who generously donated their bikes or riding gear to the cycle of courage team, without you our young people surely wouldn’t have had this amazing experience.

After arriving to Seaworld we had the pleasure of attending the presentation evening.  Thank you to everyone who donated items and who generously bought the auction items. The young people are amazed at the generosity of each and every one of you.  Two of our young students spoke about their experiences at Youth Off The Streets and how it has changed their lives. Their speeches were incredibly inspiring and showcased the reason behind The Engadine Rotary Club’s fantastic support for 19 years.

Would also like to make a special mention to all the bike shops who donated riding gear to our young people:

  • Northside Cyclery in Chatswood
  • ABC Bikes in Liverpool
  • The Odd Spoke in Dural
  • One Body Health and Fitness in Castle Hill
  • Clarence Street Cyclery

Your generosity has not gone unnoticed and the young people are so appreciative of each riding gear that was gifted to them.

We look forward to what next year will bring for the Sydney to Surfers 20th Anniversary.
