Youth Week takes place during the first week of April each year. It is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views and to act on issues that affect their lives.
Each year at Youth Off The Streets, we organise events to recognise the contribution of young people. This year one of our notable events was a sleep-out organised by our Blacktown Outreach team in the efforts to support homeless young people.
The event coincided with Youth Homelessness Matters Day and provided participants with an opportunity to sleep rough to raise funds and awareness for youth homelessness. The sleep-out culminated in a community breakfast the following morning.
Youth Off The Streets CEO and Founder, Father Chris Riley, highlighted the importance of the day:
“We have been running sleep-outs for a number of years now and it’s a good way of exposing young people to the harsh reality of being homeless — in a safe and structured way,” he said.
