On 3 September 2016, plant-based endurance triathlete Greg ‘the fruit guy’ McDermott pedalled his way out of Sydney to begin his lap around Australia.
Greg’s primary goal in his ride around oz is, “To educate, motivate and inspire as many people as he can throughout the journey, that anything you want to achieve in life IS possible.”
His journey takes him from Sydney up to Townsville, then across to Darwin and further to Broome, followed by a leisurely ride down the west coast to Perth. From Perth, Greg will ride east to Melbourne, travelling across the Nullaboor and through Adelaide, and then continuing up to Sydney where he will be joined by Youth Off The Streets cyclists for his final leg.
In riding around Australia, Greg is raising funds for Youth Off The Streets as an everyday hero. So far, Greg has raised almost $12,000 of his $50,000 goal which is a tremendous effort but we encourage you to get behind him and support this incredible physical feat.
Greg’s 79 day journey will end on 19 November as he returns to Sydney and pedals into Rose Hill alongside students from Youth Off The Streets’ Step Up Program.
Greg has extended an invitation for anyone to join him in his final leg of the journey! Meeting at 10am at the M7 Bike Path, we suggest that attendees park in Ash Rd and walk along Camden Valley Way to meet at the beginning of the bike path. From there it is a 40km ride along the path, and a further 8km to the finish line at the Fiddler Hotel. We recommend that only those comfortable riding on the road join Greg for the last 8kms, however the bike path is easy for all!
We are proud to have Greg as a supporter of Youth Off The Streets, his extraordinary efforts and funds raised for Youth Off The Streets are not only beneficial for our cause, but are also an inspiration for all Australians. We look forward to seeing him arrive back in Sydney!
